Liverpool have entered the race to sign Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella, according to The Express.
The Italian midfielder’s performances in the Serie A have caught the attention of Jurgen Klopp, with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri also keen to bring the £45 million rated midfielder to the Premier League.
Barella can play as a box-to-box midfielder and has even been compared to a Liverpool legend by La Gazzetta dello sport, who labelled him the ‘next Steven Gerrard’.
The 21-year-old’s ball retaining and tackling skills have also projected him as a promising midfielder with the Italians, making more tackles and interceptions (76) than any other player under-23 in the Serie A.
The Italian is currently sitting at number six for balls won by a midfielder in the Serie A with 64 as well as being number six for distance run (11,684km).
A deal for the midfielder in January though seems almost unlikely with Cagliari sporting director Mario Pasetti stating that: “he’ll stay for at least the next six months”.
