When it was reported this week by Tuttosport that Juventus were to make a £44m-plus-Paulo Dybala bid for Liverpool star man Mohamed Salah, Reds fans on Twitter went into meltdown.
It was not out of worry of losing the Egyptian, but instead a wave of derision over the insulting nature of the offer from the Italian champions.
Salah is Liverpool’s top scorer in all competitions so far this campaign with 20 goals, and hit the back of the net 44 times last season, showing he is one of the deadliest attackers in the world and it would be nigh on impossible to replace him and his impact on the team.
He recently signed a new long-term deal at Anfield, and it would likely take nothing short of a fee that would break Neymar Jr.’s world record to prise him away from the Merseyside club’s grasp.
As for Paulo Dybala, his is a player that the Reds have been linked to in recent times, and would be an ideal candidate to be the new ‘No.10’ within the team after the breakdown of the deal to bring Nabil Fékir to the club.
This, however, is not the way that the Argentine would arrive at Anfield if he were to do so, as there is little chance of Liverpool allowing their prized asset to leave for such little financial gain.
The fans’ response
Somewhat predictably, Liverpool fans have voiced their opposition to a deal of this nature and would very much prefer to keep the ‘irreplaceable’ Salah.
