The spoils were shared in a goalless draw at Old Trafford between Liverpool and Manchester United, in a game that was more notorious for its bizarre first half rather than its action.
After FOUR players left the pitch in the opening 45 minutes, United managed to hold Liverpool at bay in a result that puts Jurgen Klopp’s men back atop the Premier League table.
Here’s how the players rated…
Alisson: 8 – Absolute superb goalkeeping to deny Jesse Lingard a certain goal towards the end of the first half. Another clean sheet for his growing collection.
James Milner: 6.5 – Looked a good outlet down the right yet his final ball was not quite reminiscent of his usual self today.
Joel Matip: 6.5 – Broke through the United lines brilliantly to win a free kick on the edge of the box. Arguably should have had a penalty after being manhandled in the box by Scott McTominay from a corner. Bet his heart was in his arse though as he put in his own net past Alisson only for it to be called offside. Erratic at times.
Virgil van Dijk: 8 – Typical Virg, not an ounce of a mistake in him. He operates on another level to us mere mortals. Cool as you like.
Andy Robertson: 7 – Seeing him crushed under Romelu Lukaku’s 30 stone frame give me the shivers, especially after seeing four players leave the field injured in the first half. Not incredible by any means, but did his job.
Gini Wijnaldum: 8 – Looked hungry in the way he shut down the United midfield time after time. Brilliant in possession albeit against a United team with the bus well and truly parked.
Jordan Henderson: 7 – A little quiet in the first half, but grew into it on the back of his superb performance against Bayern in the Champions League. Was substituted in a roll of a the dice to bring on Xherdan Shaqiri.
Fabinho: 8 – His passing looked crisp in the middle of the park, and is looking at home in red now. A permanent fixture in the first team.
Sadio Mane: 7 – The man in form at the moment, the Senegalese took off where he left looking dangerous down the left hand side in the first half. Had sporadic runs in the second as his influence waned.
Roberto Firmino: N/A – Had to come off for Daniel Sturridge in what was a first half notorious for its injuries.
Mohamed Salah: 5 – Looked somewhat off the pace in the first half contrary to his usual high standards with misplaced passes here and there. Couldn’t really find any more space in the second half and was substituted for yet another roll of the dice as he was replaced by Divock Origi.
Daniel Sturridge: 5 – Came on for Roberto Firmino and immediately lashed off a wild 35 yard shot at David de Gea. Doesn’t have anywhere near the mobility of the Brazilian and was quiet throughout.
Xherdan Shaqiri: 6 – Struggled to have an impact in the middle of the park having changed the game so drastically in the previous fixture.
Divock Origi: N/A – Pure dice roll.
