The fans’ view – would Liverpool supporters welcome Philippe Coutinho back with open arms?

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has said in no uncertain terms that he believes Reds fans would attempt to block any potential move to bring Philippe Coutinho back to Anfield.

The Brazilian pushed for a move to the Catalan giants for a long time, and finally got his wish in January 2018 when he was finally allowed to leave for a club record fee – it took a nine-figure sum to finally persuade the Merseyside outfit to part with one of their prized assets.

Since moving to Spain, however, the 26-year-old has found himself struggling to adapt to what manager Ernesto Valverde want from him.

Liverpool are enjoying a very successful Premier League season to this point and are pushing for the Premier League title, but have found themselves struggling to create opportunities at times and appear to miss some of the Brazilian’s midfield creativity.

The combination of these two situations has led to continued speculation that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds could look to bring Coutinho back to Anfield in the summer, but Murphy believes that, due to the way he appeared to try and force a move, the fans would never welcome him back with open arms.

He told Sportingbet: “Coutinho would never be welcomed back at Liverpool. It hasn’t worked out for him at Barcelona, but he made his bed by declaring how much he wanted to leave and now he has to sleep in it.

“I think even if Liverpool thought it was something they wanted, the fans would make it perfectly clear it wasn’t acceptable and would force them to pull the plug. The fans didn’t necessarily begrudge him his move to Barcelona, but he left himself no way to come back.”

What do the fans actually think?

The former Liverpool, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur man certainly appears to accurately speak for some sections of the fanbase but, in reality, the supporters are very divided on this particular issue.

Some agree:

While others would be happy to see the little Brazilian come back:
