In recent days it has been suggested that Jurgen Klopp may look to strengthen his options in goal with the addition of Burnley ‘keeper Tom Heaton.
It has been apparent that options in pre-season have been limited, due to first-choice stopper Alisson Becker competing in the Copa America with Brazil.
Adding further worry is the uncertainty surrounding the future of Simon Mignolet. There have been suggestions that Sheffield United, amongst other clubs, may be looking to prise the Belgian away from Anfield.
Reports have now been brought to light via the Daily Mail, indicating that the club are ready to act by pouncing on Heaton’s ongoing contract situation. He has just 12-months remaining on his current deal.
Heaton’s future at Turf Moor has been under question for some time, after reportedly failing to reach an agreement on an extended deal. Newly-promoted Aston Villa have also been heavily linked by various outlets and made an official enquiry for his services, which was rebuffed according to Sky Sports.
The club have been quiet as yet in the market and it doesn’t appear that there will be much change before the closing date. Klopp has, on numerous occasions, spoke of the fact that it will not be a significant summer for the club in terms of potential arrivals.
Admittedly, the German has left the door open for incomings, suggesting that the club remain in the market for players suitable to the club’s aims moving forward. However, he also made it clear of his happiness regarding the current squad.
The transfer window can be unpredictable, which increases the importance of preparation. A potential departure in Mignolet, could prove costly for Klopp. Nevertheless, the club will adapt to the situation should it arrive.
