RATINGS | Bournemouth 0-3 Liverpool: Reds strong from back to front in perfect away performance

A confident and controlled performance saw the Reds win the three points comfortably on the south coast. Here’s how the players rated.

Finally, a clean sheet! And fitting that it came against the side that has failed to score against Liverpool in each of the past five games in which they have faced the Reds.

Liverpool weren’t exactly incredible against Bournemouth, but controlled all aspects of the game and thoroughly choked the life out of the luckless Cherries.

This is the side we want to see — Eddie Howe is having a nightmare with the number of injuries to first-team players, but we weren’t about to take pity on him.

Instead, Jürgen Klopp’s men produced a good, professional and convincing away performance which was pleasing in all areas of the pitch. Strong at the back, dominant in midfield and ruthless up front.

If we’re being hyper-critical, this was an opportunity to really fill our boots and smash Bournemouth for a cricket score, but there is not one sane person alive who will moan about a solid win, three points on the road and a clean sheet, even having rotated again.

Here’s how I reckon the lads got on — feel free to hurl personal abuse at me at your convenience.

Starting XI

Ali 6.5 — Poor lad had to stand there for 90-odd minutes in the freezing cold to do absolutely sod all. Clean sheet though, good stuff.

JoGo 7 — Tried his best in the first half, but he’s just not a right-back. He cannot offer anything like Trent Alexander-Arnold’s creativity and attacking threat. Carded for trying to swap shirts with Solanke on 38 minutes. Moved to centre-back after as Lovren limped off, and looked far more comfortable.

Degsy 6.5 — Limped off before half-time. Shame, because he had been pretty solid.

Big Virg 7.5 — Came up with a big challenge to deny Solanke after Keïta gave the ball away cheaply in midfield, but that’s bread and butter for van Dijk.

Robbo 6.5 — Tried to volley a cross into the box, which ended up in the car park. Fairly tidy with his work but not hugely involved.

Hendo 8 — Stunning ball over the top to Oxlade-Chamberlain which created the first goal. Ran the midfield and dictated the tempo — a strong performance from the skipper.

Milly 7 — Old.

Naby 8.5 — Full of flicks, tricks and running, as usual. Absolutely delighted to see him poke beyond Ramsdale after a delightful one-two with Salah, and thrilled that he compounded that with a perfectly-weighted through-ball to return the favour. We need to see more of that end-product from him, but he also needs more game time! Wins my man of the match award by a nose.

Ox 8 — The hero that Liverpool deserve, and one that we were delighted to have today. First Premier League goal in two years for the Englishman, and boy did he earn it. Full of positive running in the first half, though he was slightly less effective in the second once he had tired.

Mo 8.5 — His ball control is absolutely magnificent — the back-heel to set up Keïta was just perfect. Scored his first away goal in the Premier League this season, which will be a massive relief.

Bobby 6.5 — Blonde highlights in his hair. Don’t like it.

Subs

Trent (on 39′ for Lovren) 6.5 — Set up a chance for Firmino within seconds of coming on. More of an attacking threat than Gomez was, but still wasn’t hugely creative today.

CJ (on 76′ for Robertson) 6.5 — Premier League debut for the 18-year-old, but already looks like he belongs in the team. A very good prospect.

Shaqiri (on 87′ for Oxlade-Chamberlain) N/A — Big calves, but little time to make an impact.
