Jordan Henderson showcases leadership and ability in another routine Liverpool win

Liverpool beat Sheffield United 2-0 at home to continue their unbeaten Premier League streak. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the Reds in the fourth minute while Mané secured the three points with the second after the break.

The win over Chris Wilder’s side meant Liverpool maintained their 13-point lead at the top as well as going 365 days without losing in the league.

While Salah and Mané might take the headlines because of their goals, it was the world champions’ captain who earned the man-of-the-match award.

Jordan Henderson was fantastic against the South Yorkshire side. He made more ball recoveries than anyone else with a total of 12 throughout the game. He also completed one interception and won the one challenge he was involved in.

The Englishman’s passing was excellent as well. He finished the 90 minutes with a 92.6% pass accuracy. The No.14’s passes were forward-thinking as he completed more final third passes than anyone else (30). He also created four chances for his teammates.

The game plan against Sheffield United was to keep the ball and Henderson was right at the centre of it. He controlled the game from the middle of the park and was consistently looking to pass the ball forward — a true captain’s performance from the midfielder.

The 29-year-old had a fantastic 2019 which saw him lift three pieces of silverware and, in 2020, Henderson will be expected to continue the form he is currently in by the fans, the boss and by himself.

He and his teammates have Merseyside rivals Everton up next on Sunday in the FA Cup — a trophy the No.14 will want to get his hands on.
