RATINGS | Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool: Another poor showing as Reds slip again

The ‘mentality monsters’ look a bit mentally vulnerable at the moment. Three losses in four, now, at a point when this Liverpool team had looked invincible in the weeks and months previous.

Tonight’s was a less disappointing performance than that of Saturday at Vicarage Road. A three-quarter strength Red side did at least create chances against Chelsea.

It should also be noted that Frank Lampard’s young Chelsea team delivered a very good, energetic display, both frustrating Jurgen Klopp’s side at the back and worrying them on the counter-attack.

The FA Cup was never a priority for Liverpool but, just as things have started to unravel, this was not what the doctor ordered.

Here are your ratings:

Starting XI

Adri 6 — The absolute definition of a ‘mixed bag’. Two world-class saves, including a late tip onto the crossbar, but a howler for the Chelsea first was the key moment of the game. Possibly should have reached Barkley’s second, as well.

Neco 6 — Was tested more than in any of his previous Reds appearances, and never looked fully comfortable.

JoGo 6 — Up-and-down performance. Couple of weird passes, couple of great recovery runs.

Big Virg 6.5 — Started excellently, but fell off slightly and ended up straying too far forward for the Chelsea second.

Robbo 6.5 — Some testing deliveries first half, but less so after the break.

La La Land 6 — Energetic start but then began to lose out on too many 50/50’s.

Fabs 5.5 — Error led to the Willian opener.

CJ 5.5 — More or less anonymous.

Sadio 7 — Some brilliant bursts, probably unlucky not to find himself on the scoresheet. Denied impressively by Kepa twice.

Taki 6.5 — Really promising start, finding delicate touches to link play, but disappeared after the hour.

Divvy 5.5 — Was rightly subbed after a quiet performance.

Milly 6 — Touch was heavy. Earned a cynical yellow.

Bobby 6 — Quiet, other than a header which drifted wide.

Mo 6 — Had little time to make an influence.

Don Kopleone

Scouse, not Sicilian.
