RATINGS | Liverpool 5-3 Chelsea: Reds lift Premier League trophy after crazy win

Liverpool confirmed their unbeaten home status in the Premier League this season with victory over Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side. DON KOPLEONE rates the players’ evening at Anfield.

While today was always going to be about the trophy procession for Liverpool, it felt important that the Reds avoid another post-lockdown defeat, taking on Chelsea.

A loss could have left a nasty shadow on the trophy lift, but three first-half goals looked to end all chances of that.

I won’t break into detail on each individual goal – we would be here for a while with eight in total – but Christian Pulisic’s introduction brought Frank Lampard’s side back into the tie and threatened to burst the Red bubble.

As it was, though, a Liverpool substitute in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain found the late goal to seal the win that the occasion warranted.

Your ratings, on the night of Henderson’s shuffle:

Starting XI

Ali 6.5 – Will be disappointed to concede three goals but the fault lay with those in front of him for Chelsea goals two and three, certainly.

Trent 8.5 – Was in line for a rare nine after a quite simply unbelievable cross for Firmino’s header, but the Reds’ No.66 did not cover himself in glory for Chelsea’s second at third goals. Free-kick was very well taken, even if a better ‘keeper saves it. Passing was sublime. Man of the match.

JoGo 6 – Looked scared from the moment Pulisic came on, having performed well beforehand.

Big Virg 6 – In his worst run of form as a Liverpool player. Eye slightly off the ball, methinks.

Robbo 7.5 – Equally could scrutinise defensive aspects, but late driving run and cutback sealed the points, and delivery was superb throughout.

Gini 7.5 – Looked more positive than recent form had shown, and finished the third brilliantly.

Fab 6.5 – Didn’t dominate the game to the extent that he can, but that is understandable considering the quality options that this Chelsea side boast in fluid attacking positions.

Naby 7.5 – Won the ball back with regularity and opened proceedings with a screamer.

Mo 7.5 – Looked focused and energised throughout, terrorising Rudiger at times, even if the Egyptian was wasteful in front of goal.

Bobby 7.5 – Some exquisite touches in the first half, and then rose to end his much-discussed Anfield league goal drought.

Sadio 7 – Some brilliant build up work when taking Chelsea defenders on, but end product was not as efficient as it sometimes can be.

Milly 6 – Screwed up a corner routine.

CJ 6 – Didn’t quite get into the very-stretched game.

Ox 7.5 – Brought on to help defensive cover against Pulisic, but ended up making mark at the other end.

Divvy 7 – Instant threat off the bench.

Taki 6.5 – Less impact than Divock but did nothing wrong.
