I am too frustrated to write much about that game.
Liverpool were very poor in the first-half, and arguably a draw is the fairest outcome of the match. But having been denied two goals by VAR – Sadio Mané was clearly offside, Mo Salah was very tight to the line – Liverpool conceded a late penalty that was not seen by the referee.
Nor was it seen by any spectators in real time. Was it a penalty? I would not say so – Robertson appears to get foot on ball at the same time that he strikes Welbeck’s foot – although I can understand the countering argument. It certainly was not a clear and obvious error by Stuart Atwell, however. Oh and there was another injury.
Ali 8 – been Liverpool’s best player since the international break. World class display.
Neco 5 – does not appear to be learning from his mistakes, and it is becoming really frustrating. Mindless press saw him caught out of position and giving away the first penalty. Hooked at half-time.
Phillips 7 – struggled with Connolly early, but adapted well and improved as the game wore on.
Fab 6.5 – brilliant through ball teed up early Salah chance. Really poor start to the second half, but a decent display on the whole.
Robbo 7.5 – was slipping a lot, but very effective when on his feet. Not docking the Scot any points for the penalty, as I don’t believe it was one.
Mina 5.5 – not enough impact on the game. Slightly improved second period, still slightly lightweight.
Gini 6 – game passed him by a little at times, but equally snuffed out a few potential Brighton counter-attacks.
Milly 6 – looked more suited to the right-back role, again, when moved there. Muscular injury sums up the visitors’ day.
Salah 7 – constant threat, even as Brighton edged most of the first half. Disappointed to be brought off, although you can understand why Klopp felt it necessary.
Firmino 7 – started brightly, but faded a little. Less cheap possession giveaways today, and everything felt a little neater. Nearly found an assist when Mo was adjudged offside.
Jota 7.5 – outstanding goal deserved to be the winner. Slightly quieter all-round performance, though.

Hendo 7 – changed the game for the better, as he almost always does when brought on. Asserted authority and calm on proceedings.
Mané 6.5 – nearly doubled the Reds’ lead with a great header, but WAS offside. No complaints about *that* decision.
Jones 6 – not a full-back, but we knew that already.
