OLIVER LAWRENSON gives his ratings on a night were Leighton Clarkson impresses on his Reds debut.

Jürgen Klopp took the opportunity to rest a few players which was understandable with the schedule Liverpool have coming up. With several fringe players getting their chance to impress, only one managed to stand out during the evening.

It wasn’t the greatest display by the Reds who lacked any kind of intensity at all during the evening. The game was a dead rubber so both sides looked like they wanted to avoid any major injuries if possible.

Salah struck in the first minute, breaking away from the Danish sides backline and bumbling the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs. Chances were few and far between for the Reds as anything that looked promising ended with a poor pass in the final third.

FC Midtjylland struck back in the second half with a much-improved display. Alexander Scholz dispatched a penalty beyond Kelleher to bring them level, after the spot kick was awarded by the inconsistent referee.

Liverpool were denied the victory in injury time after Mianmino’s goal was ruled out for offside, but after the replays showed he was onside, Mané was adjudged to have handled the ball for his assist. This call also seemed wrong after further inspection showed that the ball had instead struck an FC Midtjylland arm.

A disappointing ending to an evening were Liverpool officially moved into the Round of 16 after the conclusion of the group stages.

Your ratings, after a sub-par display:

Kelleher 7.5 – Had a solid night. Some great saves especially from the late header. Unfortunate to give away the pen.

Alexander Arnold 7.5 – Special night being made skipper and looked back to full fitness. Passing was perfect with every long ball hitting it’s target.

Fabinho 8 – Excellent. Really making CB position his own and making clearances off the line his thing. Reds looked weaker without him in second half.

R Williams 7 – Looked really good alongside the experienced Fabinho. When partnered by Koumetio, looked less sure about his decision making but was still impressive.

Tsimikas 5.5 – Looked tired after 30 minutes. Lost possession a lot. Managed to get going in the latter half of the first period. Picked up injury and had to go off after an hour.

Clarkson 7 – Brilliant debut. Looked very comfortable in the number six role. Also provided cover at left back when Tsimikas was off injured. One to watch.

Keïta 6 – Didn’t really get going. Ball mainly went through Clarkson and Minamino. A positive was that he didn’t get injured.

Minamino 5.5 – Should have had a goal, which was unbelievably ruled out by the poor officials. Generally wasn’t great and struggled with the physicality again.

Jota 5 – Surprisingly poor and really struggled going forwards. Killed many moves with his poor passing. Putting it down to an off night.

Origi 4 – Another one who was really poor. Did nothing.

Salah 7 – Got his goal early on. Wasn’t allowed to do much more as consistently fouled. Decent evening’s work.

Koumetio 5.5 – Nice to see on for his Liverpool CL debut. Looked shaky understandably, making a few mistakes along the way.

Robertson 6.5 – Did his job when on for injured Tsimikas.

Henderson 7 – Came on and showed his leadership qualities. Solid defensively and pushed the team forwards when struggling for that 20 minute period.

Firmino 6 – Few nice passes but didn’t really do anything for the 20 minutes he was on.

Mané N/A – Should have had an assist.
