Liverpool 0-1 Fulham: Ratings as Reds show no signs of emerging from slump

DON KOPLEONE rates the Reds on another dismal afternoon for Liverpool.

Where does it end? Another Premier League game at Anfield – another uninspiring, demoralising, soul-sapping defeat.

It’s not even the losses that are the worst part. It’s the fact that, these days, Liverpool never look like they’re going to actually find the back of the net.

And it was the same story here. There was a sense of inevitability about Mario Lemina’s opener, and it seemed similarly set in stone that the Reds would not be able to claw themselves back into the game.

The seven changes made seemed both much-needed and unnecessarily risky at the same time. No doubt a refresh was needed, and I can’t blame Jürgen Klopp for resting key players for the Champions League, as that’s now our only chance of silverware.

But at the same time, the back line was one of the weakest I’ve seen from Liverpool in the last decade, and those in it didn’t seem capable of dealing with the speed and power of Fulham’s attackers.

Meanwhile, a new-look attacking line failed to provide the cutting edge we hoped it would bring. Instead, the likes of Diogo Jota and Xherdan Shaqiri became the latest Liverpool players to provide little attacking threat in this current setup.

Anyway, your ratings:

Starting XI

Ali 6 – Could not do much for the goal.

Neco 5 – Sadly, he’s just not good enough for this football club.

Natty P 5.5 – Looked exposed by some one-on-one encounters.

Rhys 5.5 – Misplaced a five-yard pass in the first half, allowing Fulham to spring a counter-attack.

Robbo 6 – Fine, but possibly could have closed down Lemina better for the goal.

Milly 5.5 – Should no longer be starting for the Premier League champions. He’s 35, though, and it’s not his fault that that hasn’t been addressed.

Gini 5 – Wants £200,000 per week when he seems incapable of influencing football games without top quality players alongside him in midfield.

Naby 6 – Bright on ball, but too rarely involved.

Little Shaq 6 – Two good efforts from distance. Otherwise, his final ball was poor.

Mo 5.5 – Looked hungry in the first 10 minutes, but then he largely faded into obscurity.

Diogo 6 – Ditto from Salah, but had a brilliant effort saved at the start of the second half. He also has the excuse of not having started a game in three months.

Trent 6 – One great cross clipped onto the post by Mané. Captain after Milner went off, but could not influence the game.

Fabs 6.5 – Immediately bettered the midfield. Good to see him back in there.

Sadio 6 – Liverpool’s most involved attacker while on the pitch, but once again has no end-product at the moment.
