Three more games to go, and three more wins were required if Liverpool are to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
It will be rather remarkable if they manage to do so, considering the injuries the Reds have had this season and their wretched Premier League form since Christmas.
But a combination of the 4-2 win at Manchester United, Chelsea’s slip up against Arsenal and the fact the Blues still have to play Leicester City – at least one of them has to drop points – means Jürgen Klopp’s side are still in the hunt for the top four.
Sam Allardyce’s West Brom side was their latest test. Liverpool failed to win the previous meeting, so an improvement on that result was needed here.
It looked for a long time as though they would only be able to match that 1-1 draw, but a remarkable finish saw Alisson leap highest from a last-minute corner to head his way into the history books.
