All the tactical tweaks, fitness gains and vital preparations – this was Jürgen Klopp’s final chance this summer to test them all with no consequences.
Osasuna visited Anfield, a little over 24 hours after fellow Spanish side Athletic Club Bilbao were Liverpool’s opponents at their famous stadium.
Diogo Jota’s strike helped his side to a 1-1 draw in that game, but it was overshadowed as Andy Robertson limped off with an injury which is set to keep him out for several weeks at the start of the fast-approaching season.
It meant a final run-out of pre-season for Kostas Tsimikas, who has looked good this summer and seems more and more likely to be the Liverpool left-back at Carrow Road when the Reds begin their Premier League campaign at Norwich City.
He was one of the stand-out performers against Osasuna, along with the irrepressible Takumi Minamino and two-goal Roberto Firmino who put the Spanish side away with a first-half flurry.
The visitors got one back in the second period, but the Reds were comfortable throughout and there was even time for both Thiago and Jordan Henderson to make an appearance, as well as Ben Davies for the first time in a Liverpool shirt.
Klopp’s side look in good shape ahead of their trip to East Anglia for their Premier League opener.
